Behind the Scenes With Us

Removing a Fallen Tree from a Rooftop

When a storm brings down a tree, it can cause significant damage—not just to landscapes but to buildings and homes as well. In one of our recent projects, our team faced a major challenge: a large tree had fallen directly onto the roof of a property. Tackling such a complex situation required expertise, precision, and teamwork. In this behind-the-scenes look, we’ll walk you through how our team safely and efficiently removed the tree using a crane, with guidance from our Managing Director.

The Situation: A Tree on the Roof

The storm had uprooted a mature tree, which fell onto the roof of a residential property. The tree’s weight and position posed multiple risks, including:

  • Potential structural damage to the roof and building.

  • A risk of further collapse or harm during removal.

  • Ensuring the safety of residents and our crew throughout the operation.

This wasn’t just any removal job—it called for careful planning, the right equipment, and an experienced team.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough with Our Managing Director

Our Managing Director was on-site to guide the operation and explain the removal process. Here’s a breakdown of how the team approached the task:

1. Assessing the Damage

The first step was to assess the situation. The team inspected the roof to determine the extent of the damage and identify the safest way to remove the tree. Safety precautions were immediately put in place to protect both the crew and the property.

2. Planning the Removal

A plan was devised to use a crane for the operation. A crane is an essential tool for situations like this because it allows us to:

  • Safely lift large tree sections away from the roof without causing further damage.

  • Work efficiently in tight or high-risk spaces.

  • Reduce the physical strain on our crew.

The Crane in Action

With the plan in place, it was time for the crane to take centre stage. Guided by our arborists, the crane was used to:

  • Carefully lift sections of the tree off the roof one by one.

  • Lower each section to the ground, where our ground crew processed and removed the debris.

Precision was critical. Every lift was coordinated to avoid further damage to the roof and ensure the operation ran smoothly.

The groundsman and the team in the MEWP maintain constant communication through headsets, ensuring precise coordination and safety during the complex tree removal process.

Teamwork and Expertise

A job like this relies on collaboration and expertise. From the crane operator to the arborists working at height, each team member played a vital role. Under the leadership of our Managing Director, the crew maintained clear communication and executed the plan with precision.

“It’s all about the right approach and working together,” our Managing Director explained during the walkthrough. “Every step we take is focused on safety and minimising impact.”

The Final Result

Once the tree was fully removed, the team inspected the roof and surrounding area to ensure it was safe and clear of debris. The successful operation not only prevented further damage but also gave the property owners peace of mind.
