Tree Planting Season

We have now taken delivery from Hillier Tree Nursery of our first batch of trees to be planted this season.

Our planners are now actively preparing for this busy period, which may involve more than you would expect!!…

They need to ensure the following is completed, even before our planting crew arrive on site:

  • Check the delivery to make sure the trees ordered have been delivered and the species match

  • Apply to the local authority for permits to dig on the sites and check service drawings

  • Some of the donor sites have stumps to be removed, so our stump grinding teams needs to be booked

  • The individual trees are tagged with order number and site to ensure they right tree goes in the right place

  • Planting teams are then allocated sites on the work planner

This is just the start of a very busy period for us, last year we planted over 4000 trees across the UK and expect this year to be very similar.

We appreciate that part of our work involves the removal of trees, usually for safety or development purposes, but its reassuring that we are helping to mitigate this - the number of trees re planted far outweighs the relatively small number we actually fell throughout the year.

Said Simon Rotheram, Managing Director

Trees are essential to our ecosystem. They’re often referred to as the ‘lungs’ of the Earth because they’re able to store carbon and produce additional oxygen for our planet.

Some advice if you are planting your own trees can be found on the RHS website: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/types/trees/planting-trees-shrubs

Trees can make such a positive impact on the environment as well as personal feelings and mental health, just take a look at these beautiful Cherry trees planted along a river in Scotland and imagine the difference on the landscape without them!
